Old Knee injuryI fractured my right knee cap a few years ago and was having problems with it last year. So i have been through a course of physio and hydrotheapry and its been fine since. But its still quite weak at the mo. I've have started at a new gym and the instructor thought i sould ask a physiotherapist what kind of exciersise's i should be doing. He as got me doing so far, Leg Extenisons, Leg Curls and Leg press. Is there any thing else i can be doing, or should i see a physio again?reply|subscribe to post

RE:Old Knee injury'It sounds like those are the right types of exercises to get you started, however it would be a good idea to start doing exercises that are a bit more 'functional'. Functional exercises generally involve exercises where you are stood up, in positions that relate well to activities of daily living such as walking, running and going up and down the stairs. Functional exercises that would help to strengthen your legs include squats, lunges and high step ups. It's also important to build up your 'core' muscles and your 'gluts' to support your legs. I'm sure the fitness instructor would be able to help you with these. Physio's are specialised in exercise prescription following injury, so if you are in doubt, I would recommend a trip to the clinic for a comprehensive program that is safe and effective in helping you regain strength.....good luck'.
